Paddle Board Rental and Shuttle in Aspen, Colorado

Paddle the Roaring Fork River through the North Star Nature Preserve, a calm, scenic stretch just five minutes from downtown Aspen, at your own pace. We bring the boards, drive you to the river, help you launch, and pick you up when you’re done. No experience needed, and no car or roof rack required.

The preserve is slow, flat, Class I water with mountain and wetland views the whole way, and it’s one of the best places in the valley to see birds, deer and other wildlife.

How it works

  1. Meet us at our downtown Aspen shop across from the Silver Queen Gondola, or we’ll pick you up at your hotel or residence in downtown Aspen.
  2. On the drive, we go over river paddle boarding and the preserve’s rules, and show you where to get out.
  3. At the put in, we help you carry your board to the water and launch.
  4. Paddle at your own pace. When you reach the take out at the pedestrian bridge, call us and we’ll bring you back to town.

Prices

  • Paddle board rental with shuttle seat: $110 per person
  • Shuttle seat for kids 8 and under, riding on an adult’s board: $30

This rental isn’t eligible for the 10% online booking discount. Shuttles hold six people, so a group of six can have the shuttle to itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The rental and shuttle is made for beginners and intermediate paddlers. Your driver goes over the basics before you launch and helps you onto the water. If you’d like a guide with you the whole way, book a guided SUP tour instead.

Shuttles leave at 8:50, 10:30, 12:10, 1:50 and 3:30. Meet us at our downtown Aspen shop across from the Silver Queen Gondola, or we’ll pick you up at your hotel or residence in downtown Aspen. We drive you to the Wildwood or South Gate put in and, on the way, go over the North Star Preserve’s rules, where to get out, and the beach where you can stop. At the put in your driver helps carry your gear to the water, gives you a few more paddling tips, and helps you launch. You get a dry bag for your phone. When you reach the pedestrian bridge take out, call us and we’ll bring you back to town.

Kids 9 and up can paddle their own board. Younger children can ride on an adult’s board, and so can adults who’d rather not paddle. Children 8 and under ride the shuttle for $30.

Wear quick drying, non cotton clothes such as shorts and a nylon t-shirt, or a swimsuit. Bring waterproof sunscreen (you’ll be at about 9,000 feet), sunglasses with a strap, water and a hat, and a light layer if the weather looks unsettled. Most people paddle barefoot; flip flops or river shoes are fine. Spare layers can go in the dry bag we give you on the shuttle.

Yes, if your group is six people. County rules allow six per shuttle, so six people fills it. For larger groups we recommend renting boards and driving yourselves: we’ll load your car and give you everything you need. You can also book a private guided SUP tour with your own guide.

  1. Cancel more than 48 hours before your rental for a full refund, less processing and card fees. Colorado averages about 300 sunny days a year, so full washout days are rare. The preserve is always slow, Class I water. It runs higher in late spring and early summer, when parts of it spread out like a lake, and slows through the summer. When flows drop below 60 CFS, county rules move the put in, and the water gets slow enough to paddle upstream on the beaver ponds.

What’s Included

Your paddle board, paddle and life jacket, a dry bag for your group’s phones and layers, and the round trip shuttle between downtown Aspen and the preserve.

What to Wear

Wear quick drying, non cotton clothes such as shorts and a t-shirt, or a swimsuit. Bring waterproof sunscreen (you’ll be at about 9,000 feet, where the sun is intense), sunglasses with a strap, water and a hat. Most people paddle barefoot; flip flops or river shoes are fine. Your phone and a spare layer can go in the dry bag we give your group.
