Ragnar, an intense and unique trail running experience hosted in the Aspen/Snowmass area annually in June is a great excuse to enjoy an Aspen Whitewater Rafting experience – you know…while you’re here. Never heard of Ragnar? Here’s how it works: teams of 8 (or teams of 4 intense individuals) run a relay style trail race on 3 single-track loops. Each member of the team has day and night to run all loops, which range from hard to “really freakin’ hard.” The total mileage for each runner is close to a half marathon including the vertical needed in the extreme mountainous environment.
Free-spirited, adventurous racers in the Snowmass area and surrounding are encouraged to get out, explore and lead. Teams make camp in the Ragnar Village, which is an event within itself. The camping area will be fully equipped with bonfires, s’mores, music, food, yoga sessions, a post-race beer garden, and “billions of stars.” If you are in town for some fun and intense Ragnar trail running, there is plenty else to explore in the Roaring Fork Valley? Luckily, the summer season will be in full swing and Aspen will be bustling with visitors. There’s much to do in the area, especially for those in search of adventures and experiences. A popular attraction nearby that cannot be missed is the stunning Maroon Bells. These picturesque 14,000 ft. mountains do not disappoint and are a must for anyone visiting the area. Hike around Maroon Lake at the foot of the Bells, or if you’re recovering from a race just sit down and enjoy the scenery.
In addition to hiking and running trails, there are a number of activities in the area to keep adventure seekers busy for a few days or for the entire summer season. Firstly, there are an equal amount of amazing biking trails in the area to keep those on two wheels busy. Whether you like riding on pavement or dirt, Aspen does not disappoint for avid cyclists. Secondly, The Roaring Fork River runs right through town and is ready to whitewater raft. If you’re visiting Colorado, and want the classic Colorado experience, get in a raft and get on the river! Hiking, biking, rafting, and wildlife watching are all abundant and easily accessed in the Aspen/Snowmass area. Ragnar operates both road and trail running experiences.
